Robust Sweet 16 Woodturning Lathe
The Robust Sweet 16 woodturning lathe offers a lot of capacity in a small package. Watch as Robust Tools owner and lathe designer Brent English demonstrates making a 32" cherry table on the Sweet 16 ...

The Sweet 16 is a "convertible" lathe. It has a 16" swing over the stainless steel ways and there is a section of bed that can be quickly and easily removed, increasing the swing to a full 32"! The section of bed, once removed, can be mounted either at the end of the lathe, for turning long spindles or on the headstock, perpendicularly to the axis, so the back side of large pieces can be turned.

Fixed Headstock
Fixed Headstock
The Sweet 16 has a fixed position headstock. Like all Robust lathes, the headstock has a cutaway design to increase the access to the back side of mounted wood
Tailstock
The tailstock is heavy duty and operates very smoothly.

Remote Control Pendant
Remote Control Pendant
An industrial quality tethered pendant style remote control is standard and provides FULL CONTROL of the motor- not just On and Off. The remote include controls for: On/Off Forward/Reverse Variable Speed The remote is magnetically backed and has a long cord so it can be attached anywhere on the lathe, except on the stainless steel ways, making it easily accessible, regardless of where the turner is working.
Spindle Lock
A spindle lock, that is independent of the indexing system, is provided to lock the spindle into any of four positions. The spindle lock remains locked without being held. While in the locked position, the motor is electronically disabled thus preventing the accidental burning of the drive belt- a common occurrence on most lathes.

Turning the front side of a piece with the gap bed removed
Removing the gap bed increses the swing from 16 to 32". The banjo is long enough to extend over the gap while turning the front side of a piece.

"When asked how the Sweet 16 compares to other convertible lathes on the market, I reply with: The Sweet 16 has comparable features, but has stainless steel ways, powder coating, a Leeson motor and VFD, a superior 7-year warranty, is US made and supported and costs nearly $1000 less than the competition. Why would you choose anything else?"
